The Gooley Club claims that an “extravagant” offer to purchase land from The Nature Conservancy was rejected and that an offer to DEC to maintain high stewardship levels and relieve DEC’s maintenance burden was ignored.
They further state that they are willing to share their resources with the general public and that the Gooley Club benefits the local economy by an estimated one-million dollars per year.
Knowing that the Gooley Club is an important piece of their economy, the towns of Newcomb, Minerva and Indian Lake have all passed resolutions in support of keeping the Club in place.
